What are your feelings about the government run health care they are proposing?

I personally do not want it.  It has to many strings attached and since I am over 65, I will lose the Medicare I have and paid into all the years I worked and will have to be evaluated to see if they want to continue providing health care for me or if they think I'm a liability and therefore not entitled to receive health care but I bet you ten to one if that happens, they will still think I have to pay my share.  You know all of us people on Social Security are rich.

I don't think it is right to make anyone give up their health care plan or to pay a high premium because some lazy scum bag won't work and thinks the government owes him everything.  And those people are the ones who will be first in line because "poor people can't afford it."  That is bull crap.  They aren't any more needy than anyone else and will ruin it for everyone as everytime they get a fart crosswise they'll run to the doctor.  They do it now and apply for Medicaid to go along with the SSI because they are to lazy to work and earn it.

I can't afford a separate health care plan but I try to take care of myself the best way I can and hope nothing disastrous happens or I'll just be out of luck but that is my choosing and I'm not asking the government or anyone else to pick up the bill.  I know a lot of people in the same position as I am and they all feel the same way.  We will pay our own way and won't put it on our neighbors or family to foot the bill.

Right now I pay the difference that Medicare don't cover and I know one thing, I will not allow my doctor to put me through the tests as he did earlier this year.  That was a waste of time and money and unless they have a reason, I see no reasoning in testing just to make sure everything is all right.  There was more danger in the tests I had done with all the radiation than I needed and I won't do it again.

I hate going in for this stupid ear infection but there are some things we need care for and this happens to be one of them but I still don't like going.   And I know there are a lot of people who just can't afford health insurance, but this is not the answer.

This whole plan is a sham and our health care system which has its problems and yet is one of the best in the world will cease and go down the tubes but then our government wants that as they want to control all of us.

Shades of Hitler, if you ask me.  And the dictators in Washington are going to keep chipping away at all of us and our freedoms and constitution until we will have nothing.

This is the way I feel about it and I'm curious to see how you all feel.

I haven't heard the details of the new plan so I really can't comment. All I do know is, there are folks pulling their own teeth, or not getting any dental care, as well as those who do not seek medical care because they haven't got the money. Something drastic needs to be done.

I am a HUGE proponent for preventive medicine as well. For sure! Last month, my 63 year old cousin's doctor insisted she have a mamo and they discovered breast cancer. It was in it's very early stage and though the lumps were malignant they hadn't spread to her lymph nodes or deeper into her breast tissue. The lumps were removed and all she'll have to do is take some meds.  Had she not gone it would have progressed and spread, and only God knows what from there. I know how she felt prior and I respected her beliefs, the tests don't always tell all , but I feel proud because I was one of her loved ones who encouraged her to listen to her doctor. This was her first mamo. I've been going for mamos since I was in my early twenties, only because I know early detection can eliminate heartbreak or death, and logically it seems a wise thing to do. I've seen too many woman over the years ignore their breast, only to get breast cancer that was diagnosed too late and had to have mastectomies and then radiation and chemo. So sad, and so unnecessary. Same for a colonoscopy. Colon cancer, the silent killer. So if the new health plan incorporates preventive medicine, it's a good start. I wish all insurance companies would insist on mamos, pap smears, colonoscopies, and blood and urine test yearly! Nip it in the bud early is my motto!

GG, I can understand the preventative medicine idea but I think doctors get a little carried away with some of the tests they require.  My doctor knows I have Lupus and arthritis and yet he did a bone density test which only confirmed what we already knew so to me it was a waste of time and money.

And as for the mammograms.  I don't believe in them.  I know that it seems to run in families and if that is what a person wants to do then that is their choice and I'm not going to condemn them or tell them it isn't worth it.  As for me, I've been there and done that and have had nothing but problems.  Doctors rely on the x-rays and are standing by with their scalpel and sorry but I just don't go along with it.

If a woman has a problem, there is really only one test that can tell what it is without surgery but they won't use it.  That is ultra sound.  It shows exactly what the mass is, if there is one and very definite if it is something that needs to be investigated further or as in my case, watch and drain if it enlarges or becomes a problem.  When I've had mammograms followed by ultra sound, the doctors have had to back down and I haven't had to undergo the knife.

But with the plan that Congress is trying to get passed, it won't be for the everyday person.  It is designed mainly for the low income and illegals who are already breaking the medicaid system.  Go read up on it.  Type in health care reform or government bill.  There are several sites that have the info.  And again, they want those who are working or can afford it to pay the premiums for those who won't work or can't work for some reason.  Most are those who won't work.  That isn't fair.  And it isn't fair to single out a segment of people who reach a certain age and every five years consult with them to explain they would be better off just dying and not taking up valuable medical care that someone young could use.  DUH! Excuse me.  Who made them God?

I just cannot support this bill the way it is written and it will ruin our medical care in this country and those who need it still won't have it and that is the most horrible tragedy that can happen.

I'll see if I can find some links for you to read up on the bill as it is right now.

I still think if they would overhaul the insurance industry and regulate it then health insurance would be affordable and then to cut down on the waste being spent through Medicaid and Medicare.

If someone has a belly ache and it isn't life threatening, then don't treat them or pay for it.  Same as for a cold.  I've seen people run to the doctor for a simple cold when they could have gone to Walmart or any store to get remedies to help relieve their symptoms.  There is no cure so why should anyone waste money or a doctor's time for a simple cold.

True if it goes beyond that, then medical treatment is necessary but not for sneezes and a runny nose.  That is what has made the shambles of our medical care, the abuse by people and the medical profession.

This is just one.  I'll see if I can find more, but this one has a lot of information on it.  I wish everyone would really read what the bill says before they pass judgment or just say they think we need it and support it.

We may need a health reform but not this one.

Barb-That's exactly what they did with my cousin after her mamo, an ultra sound and that's what determined her lumps found by the mamo appeared cancerous. She was very lucky! Had she waited, it could have gone to who knows what stage.

I have to go and read the bill. As soon as I do that, I'll be back. However, I think it's going to change a million times before one is signed, sealed and delivered. Already they're saying it won't be until at least the fall that something new to look at will come up. I just hope they don't take that long, sheesh! Although, fall is right around the corner come to think of it. Yikes!

Is this what we are in for?  Scares the hibbie jibbies out of me.

DEADLY DOCTORS
ADVISERS WANT TO RATION CARE

By BETSY MCCAUGHEY

July 24, 2009

THE health bills coming out of Congress would put the decisions about your care in the hands of presidential appointees. They'd decide what plans cover, how much leeway your doctor will have and what seniors get under Medicare.

Yet at least two of President Obama's top health advisers should never be trusted with that power.

Start with Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, the brother of White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel. He has already been appointed to two key positions: health-policy adviser at the Office of Management and Budget and a member of Federal Council on Comparative Effectiveness Research.

Emanuel bluntly admits that the cuts will not be pain-free. "Vague promises of savings from cutting waste, enhancing prevention and wellness, installing electronic medical records and improving quality are merely 'lipstick' cost control, more for show and public relations than for true change," he wrote last year (Health Affairs Feb. 27, 2008).

Savings, he writes, will require changing how doctors think about their patients: Doctors take the Hippocratic Oath too seriously, "as an imperative to do everything for the patient regardless of the cost or effects on others" (Journal of the American Medical Association, June 18, 2008).

The bill is over a thousand pagers, and without reading the whole thing I really can't comment on the whole thing. What I have read, some of it I like, some I don't understand and others, well, what do I know?  I can only hope our congressmen and women will do what needs to be done to ensure every American gets a fair deal. As it gets closer to voting for the next draft, I'm sure more will be said on it. So, basically, it's a wait and see. I do like the idea of a Wellness Plans. I'm more into the alternative options and what I've seen in the bill takes that into consideration. Right now I don't have that option in my plan, Aetna does not recognize naturopaths or natural medicines and I think they should be considered as a viable alternative to the toxic man-made drugs being pushed on us by the lobbyists for the pharmaceutical industries. I got my fingers crossed for that, and also for putting back health care in our schools. I loved the school nurse and the city doctors who used to come into my schools when I was a kid and give us all a quick going over.
