Reply with quote | #271 | Dale, that is such good news that Joni is home and ready for Thanksgiving. A hug for all of you and a joyous Thanksgiving.
Well, gang, maybe our bad times are turning for us. I got news tonight that my niece is expecting. I know that she isn't the first to become pregnant but here is her story.
She was married about 7 years ago and over three years ago they began trying to have a baby but nothing happened. They went in for checkups and testing and discovered that her husband has a rare genetic disorder and cannot produce sperm so their hopes for a child were dashed and their dreams. They were pretty down for a while but began talking about adopting but the cost is prohibitive unless they went black market and they wanted a legitimate adoption. So they talked it over and decided to go with the donor sperm and after three tries, she is pregnant. Her due date is June 29th.
So there are some miracles out there and they are beginning to show themselves. They are so excited as is my sister who swore she didn't want to be "grandma" and is already calling herself that. I knew she would change once she realized she was going to have a grandchild.
And the wonder of a loving husband who loves his wife so much and told her that the child would be theirs as it was a part of her. I cried when I heard what he told her. We have never met him but he sounds like one heck of a guy. They will make great parents and so deserving.
Anyway I just had to share our good news as I know my niece is on cloud 9 and I'm sure her husband is there with her. Now I get to tease my sister about being an "old grandma". HA!
We had all kinds of excitement around here tonight. We heard a knock on the door and since Harold had already gone to bed, I went to see who it was and there was no one there but I could see some men in the yard so opened the door to find the neighbor across the street apologizing for his brother in law who was being restrained and led away.
My gate was standing wide open and I couldn't find my dogs. I told Japser to close the gate because of the dogs and he did and apologized again. But it escalated from there and we heard yelling, screaming and was about to call the cops when it stopped. Then we heard and saw him go to our neighbors to the north and he did call the sheriff. I did too as it got loud and I kept hearing women scream and men were yelling. We didn't know what was going on. Then they began getting into cars and speeding out of here but soon they were all headed back followed by the sheriff's car so evidently he stopped them before they got out of the development.
He was over there for almost a half hour and I was out looking for the dogs in the yard and heard someone tell the officer that they had been drinking. The guy who had come over here was doing all the yelling and threatening his wife and telling her he was going to see that her kids were taken away from her.
Anyway, the truck left after Jasper, the neighbor began throwing stuff out the door and it is all quiet now.
Her brother and his wife and 3 kids have been living there and he hasn't been working and I think things got out of hand and with the drinking, it was worse. I know we wondered how both families could be living in the same house and they weren't working anywhere. They said they came up here from Texas to get a job but we never saw them go out of the house.
When something happens like this tonight, I think maybe our neighborhood is really going down hill. We never used to have trouble like this and it was a nice quiet place but I think as long as they live there, we are going to see more. And I found out they are buying the place so isn't like they rent and the landlord can throw them out.
Oh well, hope things will be okay now. He is the one we hired to put the carpet in the trailer and he keeps putting it off. He called earlier this evening to say he'd be over first thing in the morning so will see. If not, another friend said he would help us get it down. That will be the last thing we have to get done so need to get it finished. One thing is he took the bed out and so we have to get that put back.
I've got to get to bed as need to be up early as knowing our one friend, he will be here by 7:30 or 8 so I need to be up and dressed and have at least one cup of coffee. HA!
Going to be a busy day tomorrow and may not get by until late. So I hope you all have a good night and a great day tomorrow. May God be with you.

Reply with quote | #272 | Dale, so glad to hear that Joni is back home and doing better, that must have been scary to have her go back into the hospital. Being home and getting ready for Thanksgiving is such a positive thing. Having everyone together is what counts.
Barb, it sounds like you've had a little too much excitement. I really hope it calms down. It isn't fun living in an area that is starting to get questionable people. It is too bad times are so hard for most people. The job situations really sucks and it amplifies the problems people have when jobs can't be found. I'd think though if the guy was hired to do your job, he'd be over trying to get it done. I hope you get the carpet done soon.
When we hired the electrician to help us with the downstairs, the guy came over once with his son. That was it. Russ had watched what the guy did that first day and was tired of waiting for the guy to come back. He never followed through. Russ then bought a book on how to do electrical work and ended up doing all of the electrical himself. It was cool, because Russ can be such a perfectionist at times and when the inspector came to give the final inspection, he specifically asked about the electrical work, then said it was one of the best jobs he's seen. That was a big ego boost for Russ. lol
Congrats to your niece on her pregnancy. That is so cool. My sister Linda, loves being a grandmother as well and proudly wears the label with pride.
Linda is taking one day at a time. She is really trying to be positive and finds things to be thankful for daily. Her kids have really pulled together for her, but then again they have always been close. The day for her surgery is approaching, but not fast enough. I'm glad they have Thanksgiving to look forward too.
I had to deal with the parent from hell, the other day. I couldn't believe her attitude and the entitlement she thinks she has. She was so irrational and contradictory as well. I tried to keep re-directing the conversation to the original point of the call which was transportation. She was way out of line. Our company provides transportation home to families as a courtesy, we don't get funding at all for this, and we can only 'try' to get our individuals home if we can find drivers. Otherwise if the parents/family/guardians want to see their individuals they have to make the arrangements to see them and or get them home. The mom pretty much took her frustrations out on me. The insults and derogatory statements she made was horrible. I can honestly say, I was very professional. One of the new staff I was training was in my office for the whole conversation. The parent actually hung up on me. I looked at the phone and looked at my staff and said, she hung up on me ...
My staff's mouth dropped open and said, but why? I could tell that she wouldn't even let you get a word in, and you were just trying to explain the situation. My staff told me I can't believe how professional you were and how calm you were, that they could hear the parent yelling.
I can tell you I'm very thankful to have a witness who at least heard my side of the conversation.
About a minute later, the parent called back with more insults and sarcasm. The problem was I couldn't find a driver to get her son down on the 'day' she wanted. She then demanded that it was my personal responsibility to get her son to Las Vegas and my personal responsibility to get him picked up. I politely informed her that I am not even in the equation. I was able to get the conversation back on track, but it didn't last long. She ended up demanding a call back from me before I left from work that day with the final details of her son's transportation. I emailed my boss and the Associate Director a detailed letter about the whole conversation. They ended up contacting the support coordinator that is handling the case and told us as a company not to even respond back to her. She is not even the legal guardian and has no legal right to demand anything of our company. I was instructed not to even call her back, because she was so out of line with all of her complaints and demands.
The mom called me back at the end of the day and politely asked me if I had an update about the transportation. I politely told her there were no changes as of yet. She became belligerent and very insulting again to me. I guess she expected me to have a driver ready and waiting for her personal disposal. I waited until she was done and I politely told her that I was instructed to work with the legal guardian for any future correspondences about her son. That she could work out any needs with the guardian about transportation and they in turn would work with us. She wasn't happy and was very insulting again and then hung up on me.
When I got home that day I was just drained. It never ceases to amaze me how people can be so mean.
Well, I should try to get some sleep. I have to work in a few hours. Because next week is Thanksgiving and a short work week I have to have the time sheets in by early Monday morning. Nicole is going to go with me to work to help me so I won't be there all day. I'm going to be completely lazy when I get home.
GG, the days just continue to melt together, sometimes I can't even remember when one day ends and the other day starts, I think I'm going to call it life soup.
I hope everyone has a good day today. Vickie

Reply with quote | #273 | Good day all. Oh, I'm so ready for a vacation. After all the hoopla last night, I did go to bed early but woke up at 1:30 choking. Scared me and Harold as he got up and came over to pat me on the back and get me a glass of water. I just couldn't get my breath but after about 30 minutes, I'd settled down. Never had one bother me quite that bad. But my sinuses are really draining so probably made it worse. My throat hurts from all the coughing and my chest kinds of hurts today.
Then he woke me up at 6:30 as we had people coming to work. So I got up, had my coffee and got dressed and by 7:30 our friend was here to finish hooking up the septic and then his friend brought his computer back. He got a virus and Steve took it home after spending two hours here trying to fix it, he wiped it clean and reloaded everything on it.
The guy across the street didn't show up and I had to go pick up some things at the store so I went over to give him $20 for pulling up the carpet and the strip he left here and told him I had someone else to do it as he said he was planning to come this afternoon. I told him again, my daughter would be here this afternoon and will be sleeping out there tonight so it had to be done.
So our friends Tony and Cheryl are out there putting it down for us. I was going to do it myself if no one else would as I was going to have the bedroom finished at least by the time she got here.
We may not get the other piece laid today but I think I could do it as it is a straight piece and I can surely figure out the air stapler.
Anyway, I got my washer all unhooked and the floors swept and more stuff cleared out so there is room in the shed now and then cleaned off the front porch enough to make room so they can get in and stack boxes in there. I got my kitchen cart moved out and floor swept to make room for the kitchen cabinet. Plus I went to town so I haven't been letting any grass grow under my feet this morning. HA!
Vickie, that woman who called you sounds like a nut. I'm glad your superiors ignored her and hope she leaves you alone. Some people just think they can run over other people.
Well, looks like I'm needed out there so guess will close for now. Hope you all have a great day. They should be here with the truck around 3 this afternoon and then we get to work all over again.

Reply with quote | #274 | Barb, I got tired reading your post. I guess I'm just plain pooped out myself and reading about everything you guys did, just made me want to take a long nap again. lol I hope you are feeling better and got some rest later today.
I got home from work around 1:40 today. Poor Nicole just wanted to hang out with me and she was very sick. I told her I'd take her home, but she said no, that she would be miserable if she was there too, so she just wanted to be with me and be miserable. What a sweet heart. She helped me get the time sheets done and then we got home. I offered to make her lunch and she turned green just thinking about food and went to her room to go to sleep, so I made lunch for Russ and I. I went to my room and just slept the rest of the afternoon.
I dreamed I was still at work, and then I dreamed that I was traveling and people were waiting for me to get there so I could do what ever it was that needed to be done, I was on a time schedule and I got stressed in my sleep. lol. I guess you can say I'm stressed. I so wish I was in a little cabin in the mountains somewhere just by myself with nothing to do except sleep and view the mountains. A nice little stream or creek would be nice as well.
Barb, I get tired of the nuts like that woman. I keep asking what the purpose is, but I suppose it is to prepare me for something bigger and better.
I hope I can slow down someday, but I fear that I may never get the chance.
I am going to try to do some writing. Maybe I can get lost in my characters and my story and forget about life for the moment.
I hope everyone had a good day. Vickie

Reply with quote | #275 | Vickie, I know a lot of tired people tonight. Melanie just went to her trailer and is so tired but she's been up since 6 am and then all the loading. When they got here aroung 3:30, Zach got most of the heavy stuff off and some of the boxes. We have the washer and dryer and her freezer in the shed and her mattress on her bed in the trailer plus her recliner. Tomorrow we will get the rest of the boxes, her dinette and the old kitchen cabinet. She has a couple of book cases, a pie safe and a couple of file drawers but that is about the extent of her furnishings.
Tony and Cheryl were able to get all the carpet installed and she loves it. Said it was perfect and everyone who's seen it really likes it. And we had neighbors on both sides of us, plus Tony and Cheryl and another neighbor who lives down the way a piece all come by to take a look.
Tony and I got the propane bottles in place and hooked up but couldn't get the stove or refrigerator to work. Harold and I went out this evening and he discovered the valve wasn't on all the way and now the stove works but not the refrig.so tomorrow we will try to figure that one out. The heater works good so she can use it tonight or she said she might get it warm in there and use her electric blanket.
I was afraid Harold was doing to much but Melanie and Zach kept him in line as I was busy helping out at the trailer for the last minute things. Once I said I should be 5 people as was needed all over the place. HA! I'm feeling it in my legs, feet and back tonight and bet I sleep good.
But we have tomorrow and will be ready to tackle the rest. I think Zach and his dad are coming over tomorrow afternoon to help and we plan to sleep in and take it easy but will start on it. We have about 2/3 of the truck to unload plus her car. She has so many boxes with her craft items and for now her clothes are packed away. She said she will have to change out the seasons as won't have room for everything in the trailer so some will be packed for spring and summer and she'll have out her fall and winter stuff for now. She does have two closets plus several drawers in the bedroom/bath area.
We think our neighbors across the street might have split last night as it has been quiet over there all day and only he has been there and he left this evening and I think I heard his truck come back. I went over to pay him and he was so hoarse but with all the yelling last night, I'm not surprised. I hated to tell him we found someone else to do the job but he just kept putting it off so I did give him something for tearing out the old carpet. It is a shame as they had two small children but it just doesn't work to have family living with you that you have to support and then the drinking. It just don't mix and it all blew up last night.
Well, I think I'm going to go get ready for bed. Harold went to bed awhile ago and is asleep.
I hope Nicole is feeling better. Bless her heart, not feeling good and yet wanting to be with you and helping out. She's a good girl.
And I hope the rest of the bar buddies are all well. Have a good night and will be back sometime tomorrow. God bless and keep you safe and well.
Barb

Reply with quote | #276 | Hey, guys! Sorry to be away a whole day, but things are going good today, though I don't want to say that and jinx it, but...lol
Barb-Like you don't already have enough on your mind, now you have routy neighbors to give you a headache to all your other stresses. I hope they are the only ones around who cause any problems, and if they separated as you say, maybe there will be peace.
Wow, as Vickie said, I got tired just reading all that's been going on by you! But all in all, it looks like things are coming together and you're gonna have plenty of time to relax and just have a good time with the family. Amen!
I'm glad Harold is doing well, and great news on your niece. Yeah, her husband sounds like a dream and a real keeper. She is a lucky girl, and I got a kick out of you goofing on your sister. lol
Vickie, Vickie, Vickie- Never a dull moment on the job for you, is there? Some people just don't get it and never will. You did good!
Sorry Nicole is ill, but what a good kid to help with your work again, sick as she was. And how sweet of her to want to hang with Mom. I don't have to tell you to treasure these moments.
I'm happy to hear Linda and her family are gathering for the holiday. It'll be hard for them, but I'm sure they'll appreciate each more than any other holiday before. We seem to move through life taking things for granted, and that, my friend, is a lesson we've all been learning around here of late.
I hope you got some writing done, but don't expect to keep up with Barb. Ha!
To the lurkers, I hope all is well with you and yours, and may Jesus continue to watch over our little bar. __________________ ~GG~

Reply with quote | #277 | GG, so glad you had a good day. Keep them coming girl especially with Thanksgiving this week and Christmas just around the corner.
Barb, I'll bet it feels good to have most of that work completed.
Nicole is feeling much better, in fact the evening after her being so sick, she bounced right back and is now her bubbly self. So glad it didn't last long.
I hope today goes well. I have so much to do at work. I just want to get it all completed so I don't have to worry and stress anymore at least for the rest of the week. I got some good sleep yesterday and last night, so at the moment I feel rested.
I baked some homemade banana nut bread yesterday and it turned out good. This evening I have a turkey to cook for work tomorrow along with the stuffing. I have to start preparing the potatoes as well tonight. I have 40 pounds of potatoes to peal and cook so I can get them all mashed up and ready for our feast for the guys tomorrow. I won't start cooking the potatoes until early, early, did I say early? in the morning, because I want them fresh. I'm making banana pudding as well with the Nilla cookies, real bananas and whipped cream. Other staff and a parent is helping to make and prepare the other trimmings as well. The guys should have a lot of fun. I know they are all looking forward to the feast. I want to get brownies and cookies made for my family to munch on too, as they like those. I'm not baking homemade pies this year. I just don't have the time or the energy with everything I'm going to do for work.
It will be just Russ, Nicole and myself at home this year for Thanksgiving, all of our closer friends have moved away and others have large dinners they are preparing for their own families and most are going out of town.
My brother surprised my sister Linda and is going to spend the week with her at her house, some other cousins will be there to visit as well. I know they will all have a fun time together.
I got some writing done yesterday, I had a lot of fun getting into my characters. I'm doing some editing also on another story. I'm just trying to make time for my writing even though I'm busy.
I hope everyone has a good day. I keep everyone here in my prayers and hope. God Bless Everyone.
Vickie
